It has been proved that mountainous forests of Georgia fulfill soil-protective and other ecological functions. Quantitative manifestation of these functions mainly are stipulated firstly by the specificity of background moistening of regions, where mountainous forest ecosystems are produced, secondly, by the degree of afforestation of water-collector basins, types of forest, taxation and forestry peculiarities of plantations. Concrete quantitative indicators of bottom deposits in small and big water-collectors are given. Tvauri L., Ichuaidze G., Rostiashvili S. - Condition of natural renewal of yew (Taxus baccata) in Batsara reserve (Vasil Gulisashvili Forest Institute, protected territories of Tusheti). Collection of Scientific Works "Problems of Agrarian science", volume 36. Summary Peculiarities concerning condition of natural renewal of yew are given by us. It was determined by investigations that good conditions by diameters are marked in the openings of large size, where nearly all juveniles of various diameters are quantitatively more than in openings of small size. By the same regularity juveniles were marked by the heights. From the results of investigations good renewal is observed in openings of big sizes. Djaparidze T. - Trends of development of Georgian forest economy. Collections of Works of Tbilisi Botanical Gardens, volume 34. Summary Reorganization of forest sector without integration into plan of common economic development of country and into monetary and credit policy is unimaginable. As for stage-by-stage privatization of forest territories, it will bring sufficient income to the state, which will be spent on financing forest protection and rehabilitation measures as well as on improvement of social conditions of Georgian people. However, execution of such measures is inadmissible without working out of legislative base and common state forest policy. Lobjanidze E. - Rare and disappearing species of Caucasian Dendroflora - Georgian maple (Acer ibericum M.B.). T.S.U. Kakheti Branch Scientific Works Collection, volume 7, Tbilisi. Summary Rescuing-preserving measures of this rare and disappearing species. Author has found and studied the only well-preserved small coppice of this very rare and nearly vanished species of Caucasian dendoflora, Georgian maple near Tskhneti, on the right bank of the river Vere, in the neighborhood of Betania monastery, where its bio-ecological peculiarities, renewal, growth-development, fruitfulness, reasons of loss of seedling-juveniles and others are studied on three model areas differed by orographic conditions. Measures for rescuing-preserving of gene pool of this rare and disappearing species are planned. Lobjanidze E. - Bio-ecological properties of bast (Pterocaria pterocarpa Kunt.) and sustainability of their coppices in Kakheti small woods. T.S.U. Kacheti Branch Scientific Works Collections, volume 7. Summary In Lagodekhi state reserve and its neighbouring grove-forests state of individual bast trees and bio groups both in optimal and extremal conditions have been studied. Causes of mass drying up of bast trees have been studied on three objects. Drying up was marked at those plots, where the level of subsoil waters decreases by 0,5-1,0 m or other way round, there where small woods were flooded. In optimal conditions, where water level is stable (0,7-1,0 m) bast is of highest productivity and forms pure, of high bonitation all-aged coppices with general wood stock of 400-500 cubic m. per hectare. It is expedient to announce such coppices as reserve in order to keep gene pool of this disappearing species. Lobjanidze E. - Kolchi willow (buxus colchica Pojark) and carving on willow. Pilarska D., Solter L., Kereselidze M.,Linde A., Gernot H.2006. Microsporidian infections in Lymantria dispar larvae: Interactions and effects of multiple species infections on pathogen horizontal transmission. Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, Volume 93, Issue 2, October 2006, Pages 105-113. Summary The interactions in multiple
species infections and effects on the horizontal transmission of three microsporidian
species, Vairimorpha disparis, Nosema lymantriae and Endoreticulatus
schubergi, infecting Lymantria dispar were evaluated in the
laboratory. Simultaneous and sequential inoculations of host larvae were
performed and the resulting infections were evaluated. Test larvae were
exposed to the inoculated larvae to measure horizontal transmission. Dual
species infections demonstrated interspecific competition between Nosema
and Vairimorpha in the host larvae, but no observable competition
occurred between Endoreticulatus and either of the other
microsporidian species. Timing of inoculation was an important factor
determining the outcome of competition between Nosema and Vairimorpha.
The species inoculated first showed a higher rate of successful establishment;
a time lag of 7 days between inoculations allowed the first species to
essentially exclude the second. The microsporidia differed in efficiency of
horizontal transmission. Nosema and Endoreticulatus were
transmitted at very high rates, close to 100%. Horizontal transmission of Vairimorpha
was less efficient, ranging from 25% to a maximum of 75%. The patterns of
infection observed in inoculated larvae were reflected in the test larvae
that acquired infections in the horizontal transmission experiments.
Competition with Vairimorpha suppressed horizontal transmission of Nosema
after simultaneous and sequential inoculation. In simultaneous inoculation
experiments Endoreticulatus had no effect on transmission of Nosema
and Vairimorpha. Tavadze B., Supatashvili A., Tvauri L. - Common yews pests and fungi causing diseases obtained (Taxus baccata L.) in Batsara state reserve. "Moambe of Georgian Academy of Sciences of Agriculture", Volume 17. Summary Results of forest-pathological investigations, carried out in yew plantations in 2005-2006 are given in the article. 17 species of 7 families from two series of fungi and 11 species of 6 families from 4 series of pests are revealed after investigations on common yew. One species Xestobium rufovillosum Deg. has been marked for the first time in Georgian Fauna. Tavadze B. - Main diseases of common chestnut (Castanea astiva Mill.). J.
